[Carolina Panorama] Millennial FM 95.9 is on a Mission to Change the World

Since its inception nearly four decades ago, hip-hop has become the most influential type of music in the world. It has spread from the streets of New York City to every corner of the globe – influencing fashion, culture and even politics.

Unfortunately, far too much of the hip-hop music created today is not what you would call “family friendly.” A significant amount of it glorifies misogyny, violence and self-destructive behavior.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. There is a segment of hip hop music that aims to have a positive impact on people’s lives. It’s known as Christian Hip Hop music, and there is a radio station in Columbia that specializes in it -- Millennial FM 95.9.

Christian Rapper Big Redd hails from South Carolina, and has opened up for artists like Travis Greene and Kierra Sheard. He spoke with Erica Campbell and GRIFF about his song, “Running Back To You,” which he says he started writing two years ago. He recalled immediately wanting Fred Hammond to be on it, and talking to God about what to say in the song.
